Installations
Installing Your New Aquarius Rainwater Tank
We have specific experience acquired over twenty-three years and hundreds of successful rainwater tank installations. We coordinate the whole installation process from delivery to your site and connection to your house. A simple installation involving a tank for garden watering is usually completed within a day. An installation requiring connection to internal appliances generally takes a couple of days.
If you want to carry out your installation, we provide the following information to assist you. We will also offer free over the phone advice to customers who have purchased one of our tanks.
Bear in mind that a licensed plumber is required if you connect tank water to internal appliances such as a washing machine or toilet.

Site Preparation
It is essential to have your tank on sound, level ground. Remove all vegetation and topsoil before preparing the tank base.
Tank Base
The underside of your tank must be uniformly supported at all times. To this end, you must construct a concrete base for slimline tanks and either a concrete or compacted crusher dust base for round tanks.
You can use treated pine sleepers to contain the crusher dust to prevent erosion over time.
If you use concrete, form the base at least 100mm longer and 100mm wider than the tank footprint. If positioning the tank against a wall, insert an expansion joint between the tank base and the adjoining wall.
The concrete must be at least 25 mpa and 100mm thick with F62 mesh halfway through the mix. It should be screeded level with no high or low spots. The finished surface should have a trowel finish.
Water Outlets
20mm or 25mm BSP female outlets are moulded into the wall of your tank. To drill out the plastic inner wall at the required outlet, use a drill up to 22mm diameter for the 25mm outlet or a 17mm drill for the 20mm outlet. There is a ‘dimple’ in the centre of the wall inside the outlet to assist with centring the drill bit or long shank hole saw.
Using a good quality thread tape to ensure a good seal, fit either a tap or gate valve to this outlet. Be careful not to cross-thread or over-tighten the tap or gate valve as this may cause damage to the outlet thread or dislodge the brass fitting from the tank wall. Over-tightening may void the warranty.
Then connect a 300mm flexible hose to the ball valve. This flexible hose must be placed between the valve and all other plumbing or rigid pipework.
Proceed to connect your pump or plumbing.
Overflow
To install the overflow, drill an 89mm hole (using a standard 89mm hole saw) through the vertical face of the tank shoulder from where the water overflow will flow back into the stormwater system.
Vacuum out any plastic shavings from inside the tank, so they do not cause blockages or damage your pump.
Safety Warning
Do not work alone. Do not enter the tank as this is a confined space. Always wear safety gear, particularly safety goggles, when drilling plastic.
